Writer's Block: Less Than Idle Hands

I nibble my fingernails when going crazy. I go crazy when nibbling my fingernails.
I drum said fingernails on legs when sitting in doctors' offices waiting... waiting... waiting...
I look at my watch about once a minute while at the bus stop waiting... waiting... waiting...
Odd enuf?
No, wait. I also diddle around on email, LJ and OkCupid! when trying to avoid real work.
So there.

Got hot & sweaty. Thought constantly about the two jobs I applied for last night, imagining a future in each of them--thinking too far ahead for my own good, as usual. Wished I had a nailclipper with me, or, alternatively, that I didn't tend to nibble. (On the nails--don't get funky ideas.) That was about it.

Typing lessons
Apr. 5th, 2008 03:23 pmI've been trying to improve my typing speed, because I'm just starting to look for a job, and a mere 28 words per minute isn't going to help. I have one of those programs (Mavis Beacon) that teaches you typing, and have started back more or less at the very beginning. I've discovered that I do terribly with just typing the letters and "letter combinations" ("ads dsk" and so forth and so on) but much better with actual words. My problem is I get nervous and start looking at the keyboard, and that rather slows me down, whereas I probably do know where all the keys really are, I just haven't practiced enough in an environment where I have to get it right. In addition to work, speedier typing would help me in my writing, not having to go back and retype whole words because I goofed on one letter near the beginning. There's got to be some way to save on keystrokes and therefore time, which is sort of the point. Does anyone have any advice? The program says to slow down and type accurately rather than quickly until you're sure of what you're doing, which I'll start to do, but then I get impatient... *sigh*
Just posted first chapter of my West Wing slash--it's on tww_fanfiction and
resourceress had to help me do it--i.e. she did all the work and I just sat and watched with no idea of what was going on--anyway, it's up there. Thanks to my beta
indigo_inferno, who I forgot to credit in the post. No, wait, I can fix that... anyway, aaagh, it's done.

Hey! It worked!
Apr. 2nd, 2008 04:17 pmCool. So now I can tell you that
denicemarcell is going to give me some starter pots for those lavender seeds when we get together on Sunday. I already had the basil and pansies planted (in yogurt containers with little holes in the bottom). Basil for cooking, lavender for sachets and pansies 'cause they're pretty.
Hope you also like my new journal theme. And title.

Leaf buds on the lilacs and other shrubs. Birds peeping in the morning. Temptations to ask the landlord can I plant a forsythia in the dirt patch in front of the building--that's all it is, honestly, just a patch of dirt. But I'm a lazy gardener and should probably start small. Which I'm doing: an extant aloe plant, and basil, lavender and pansies from seed.
Heat off, windows open, fresh air.
Slightly hyper. Too much coffee, plus a lot of sunlight--good stuff but always affects me.
I'm going to try this link-thingy one more time and then if it doesn't work I'm going to scream... My RL friend
resourceress is coming over for dinner tomorrow. We will probably be talking about LJ stuff since I'm still feeling my way around (witness how I've been grumbling about how to do this linking thing). Dr. Who and Torchwood slashy goodness will probably also enter the conversation.
Gotta go now, spending way too much time here, see y'all later.

I'm so tired and my knees are killing me
Apr. 1st, 2008 07:14 pm Either it's too much exercise or it's the *&@!# weather or it's both (for you non-Bostonians, it's damp and windy here). And my feet hurt too. And obviously I'm just generally in a complaining mood. Too bad there's no mood option for "complaining." Oh, and there's nothing in the house to eat, not anything worth the name--I'm not interested in eggs or cheese or tofu or stale bread at the moment, thank you. Guess I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow. *sighs*
On the bright side, indigo_inferno likes--really likes--the West Wing fanfic, has finished the first two stories & approved them for posting. On the less bright side, now I have to keep my promise to myself and post them. I'm going to need technical assistance with this. I'll be contacting one of you soon about this...
And despite indigo_inferno's instructions, I can't make that thing work where you type in some characters and a username and have it show up with a cute little head and a link.
Grumble, grumble, grumble...
Sigh.

Talk to me!
Mar. 13th, 2008 02:35 pmLike I said, I'm new here. So... talk to me if you're a Torchwood, Dr. Who or West Wing fan... I've got WW slash I could use a beta for before posting. I'm also writing an original science fiction/fantasy (slightly hard to classify) novel. I'd love to talk to any other writers out there as I'm approaching the end of my second draft and when it's done I'll be ready to look for an agent. Therefore also looking for agents out there...
Haven't done my profile yet, not really, since I never know what to say on these things. Anybody have any good suggestions? I mean, what sort of things are you supposed to put in there, huh? Without being either too revealing or too mysterious?
Is anyone else signed up on the dating site OkCupid? I just joined but don't know what to do with my profile there, either. Apart from that, it's a pretty cool and entertaining place.
